CLARION CAN CLINCH PSAC PLAYOFF BERTH

A Clarion win combined with a Shippensburg win at Slippery Rock would secure Clarion’s 9th consecutive PSAC Playoff berth, which would be the longest current active streak in the PSAC … The longest all-time streak is 11 by Cheyney from 1976-86 while IUP (1993-2002) and California (1991-2000) each did it 10 straight years.

EAGLES CONTROL OWN DESTINY IN WEST RACE

With three games left, the Golden Eagles control their own destiny in the PSAC-West race … If Clarion wins out it will win the West and gain the No. 1 seed from the PSAC-West in the PSAC Playoffs … That wouldn't be an easy task with the Golden Eagles finishing with three straight road games including tonight at Cal, Wednesday at Edinboro and next Saturday at IUP.

CLARION LOOKS TO REBOUND ON THE ROAD

Clarion is looking to turn thing around on the road … The Golden Eagles are 4-7 away from Tippin Gym (including 1-1 at neutral site) this season after dropping its final five road contest last year making them 4-12 away from home since midway through last season. 

CHURCH & BUCHANNAN COMING OFF CAREER GAMES

Clarion got great performances from Lee Church and Chris Buchannan in the win over Slippery Rock Wednesday … Church had career highs in points (13) and assists (11) while getting four rebounds and three steals … Buchannan added a career-high 19 points to go with 10 rebounds and four steals … Clarion had all five starters in double figures in the game.

 

RECENT CLARION-CALIFORNIA SERIES HISTORY

Clarion broke a 3-game losing streak to California with the win three weeks ago at Tippin Gym … Clarion is 7-5 vs. Cal since the 2000 season … Clarion has had some success at Hammer Hall going 3-3 in the last six games their  … Clarion is looking for its second sweep of the Vulcans in the last three seasons … Cal swept Clarion last year and then also took a PSAC Playoff game from the Golden Eagles … Clarion head coach Ron Righter is 12-23 in his Clarion career against California, while Cal mentor Bill Brown 9-9 in his time at Cal vs. Clarion … A close game won’t be out of the question … 17 of the 35 contests since 1989 being decided by 7 points or less including 10 games by 3 points or less with five 1-point contests … Cal has won 11 of the close ones.
