CLARION’S WELLS NAMED PSAC-WEST PLAYER OF THE WEEK

 

            Clarion University junior forward Ryan Wells (Library/South Park) is the PSAC-West men’s basketball Player of the Week for the week ending Feb. 28.

            Wells, who earned his third Player of the Week honor this year, had a strong week to vault the Golden Eagles into the PSAC playoffs for the eighth straight year.

On Wednesday, he helped rally Clarion from a 15-point first-half deficit against Edinboro by scoring 20 points, grabbing 13 rebounds and coming away with five steals. Then in a win over Shippensburg Saturday he had 10 points, five rebounds and three steals in 23 minutes of action. For the week, he shot 5 0percent (11 of 22) from the field.

On the season, Wells is averaging 11.3 ppg, 8.6 rpg, 1.7 apg and 2.1 spg while helping Clarion to a 16-11 overall, 6-6 PSAC-West mark.

GOLDEN EAGLE NOTES – Clarion returns to action Tuesday in the PSAC Playoffs at 8 p.m. at California … The eight straight trips to the postseason for Clarion is the longest active playoff streak in the PSAC-West and is tied with West Chester for the longest active streak in the PSAC … The Golden Eagles were PSAC Champions in 2001 … Wells also won Player of the Week awards Jan. 5 and Feb. 2 … Justin Collins won Player of the Week Jan. 28 and Terrance Vaughns won the award Jan. 12 giving the Golden Eagles five Players of the Week this season.
