CLARION’S WELLS NAMED PSAC-WEST PLAYER OF THE WEEK

            Clarion University junior forward Ryan Wells (Library/South Park) is the PSAC-West Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for the week ending with games Feb. 1.

            It marks the second time Wells, a forward playing in a guards’ body (6-2, 210 pounds) has been named the PSAC-West Player of the Week.

            Wells averaged 17.5 ppg, 12.0 rpg and 3.0 ppg while shooting 56 percent (14-25) while helping Clarion to wins over Lock Haven (72-57) and Shippensburg (71-64) during the week.

            He scored a career-high 25 points to go with 13 rebounds in the win over Lock Haven Wednesday and then followed that up with 10 points and 11 rebounds in the win over Shippensburg Saturday including two key rebounds down the stretch to help the Golden Eagles secure the win.

            On the season Wells is averaging 9.7 ppg, 8.7 rpg, 2.1 spg and 1.9 rpg while shooting 50.8 percent (67 of 132) from the floor. He ranks fifth in the PSAC in both rebounding and steals, while helping the Golden Eagles to a 14-4 record and 4-1 mark in the PSAC-West.

            The Golden Eagles return to action Monday when they host the University of the District of Columbia at 7 p.m. They then travel to Edinboro for a 7:30 p.m. game Wednesday for going to Pitt-Johnstown for a 7:30 p.m. game Saturday.

            NOTES – Wells’ award marks the fourth time this season a Golden Eagle has taken home PSAC-West Player of the Week … In addition to Wells’ two awards Justin Collins and Terrance Vaughns have each taken home the award once this season.
