GOLDEN EAGLE MEN’S BASKETBALL TEAM RANKED NO. 6 IN FIRST NCAA D-II EAST REGION POLL

            The Clarion University men’s basketball is ranked No. 6 in the NCAA Division II East Region Poll based on games through Saturday Jan. 18.

            The Golden Eagles are 10-4 on the season (10-3 through Saturday), and are coming off a 76-70 loss at the University of the District of Columbia Monday.

            Clarion is winning with defense, allowing a PSAC-best 61.0 ppg. The Golden Eagles have held eight opponents to 60 points or less this season going 7-1 in those games. Clarion has held five consecutive PSAC opponents to under 60 points.

            On offense, the Golden Eagles are led by Michael Clarke (12.1 ppg, 6.5 rpg), Terrance Vaughns (11.0 ppg), Justin Collins (9.7 ppg, 32 three-pointers) and Ryan Wells (8.4 ppg, 8.9 rpg).

            GOLDEN EAGLE NOTES – Clarion is at Slippery Rock Wednesday and at IUP Saturday. The Golden Eagles return home Jan. 28 when they host Lock Haven … Three of Clarion’s four loses have come against teams ranked in the top 10 in the East Region. The Golden Eagles have lost to No. 4 Alderson-Broaddus, No. 5 California and No. 10 Cheyney while beating No. 3 Mansfield.
