GOLDEN EAGLES RANKED THIRD IN NCAA DIVISION II EAST REGION

The Clarion University men’s basketball team is ranked third in the latest NCAA Division II East Region poll released Jan. 29 for games through Sunday, Jan. 26.

The Golden Eagles (14-4), who were ninth last week, are third behind top ranked Barton (11-1) and second ranked West Chester (14-3).

Clarion saw its five-game win streak snapped Monday in a 57-50 loss to Pitt-Bradford, but the Golden Eagles have won seven of their past nine games with the only other loss being an overtime decision at Cheyney.

NOTES: Clarion returns to action Wednesday at Lock Haven at 8 p.m. before hosting Shippensburg at 3 p.m. Saturday … The Regional rankings are used to determine the NCAA Division II playoff berths at the end of the season … Eight teams will make the NCAA D-II playoffs from the East Region … Automatic berths are awarded to the champions of the PSAC, CVAC and the WVIAC … Then the top five regional ranked teams excluding the automatic qualifiers qualify for the tournament as well.
