GOLDEN EAGLES TO HOST E. STROUDSBURG AND BLOOMSBURG THIS WEEKEND

Clarion University’s men’s and women’s basketball teams welcome East Stroudsburg and Bloomsburg to Tippin Gym for a pre-Christmas PSAC Crossover weekend. The Golden Eagles play East Stroudsburg Saturday and Bloomsburg Sunday. Women’s games start at 1 p.m. each day followed by the men’s games at 3 p.m.

Clarion’s women’s team enters the weekend 4-2 and is coming off a 79-60 loss at Ashland Sunday, but the Golden Eagles are 4-1 at home this season.

Sophomore forward Heather Cigich leads Clarion averaging a double-double with 17.2 ppg and 10.7 rpg. Allison Stodart is adding 16.3 ppg, while Courtney Willman is grabbing 6.5 rpg.

East Stroudsburg’s women enter the game at 1-5. The Warriors are led by Niki Cox (16.8 ppg) and Katie Wear (13.7 ppg), while Vanessa Kraft (6.5 rpg) and Heather Wolfe (4.5 rpg) are the leaders on the boards.

Bloomsburg, which plays at Edinboro Saturday, enters the weekend at 2-1. Jen Bryan leads the Huskies averaging a double-double with 20.0 ppg and 11.3 rpg. Karen Yeasted is adding 11.3 ppg and 8.3 rpg.

The Golden Eagle’s men’s team enters the weekend 5-2 and is coming off a 68-51 win at Bloomfield (NJ) Monday.

Senior guard Rollie Smith, who went over the 1,000-point mark a couple of weeks ago, leads the team scoring 20.3 ppg. Freshmen Shamar Green (10.7 ppg & 5.7 rpg) and Terrance Vaughns (10.6 ppg) as well as senior guard Chris Kelley (8.3 rpg) are also key figures for Clarion.

East Stroudsburg comes into Saturday’s game with a 2-3 record. The Warriors are paced by Wayne Bishop (25.2 ppg) and Aamir Taylor (11.2 ppg). LaMont Jones (9.0 rpg) and Rob Georges (5.6 rpg) clean up the glass for East Stroudsburg.

Bloomsburg, which plays at Edinboro Saturday, is 3-3 coming into the weekend. Tom Barlow (22.2 ppg & 5.7 rpg) and Adam Bohman (17.0 ppg & 9.2 rpg) are the top two players for the Huskies.

NOTES: Clarion’s women’s team returns to action Dec. 29 when they play at Barry in the Barry Tournament ... The Golden Eagle men are back in action Jan. 2 when they host Davis & Elkins at 7 p.m.
