RECENT CLARION-SHIP SERIES HISTORY: Clarion has had recent success at home against the Fighting Scots winning five of the past six meetings at Tippin Gym, but the trend is opposite at Edinboro’s McComb Field House where the Fighting Scots have won 11 straight and 16 of the past 17 games against the Golden Eagles … The last five contests at Tippin have been close ones … Clarion won by four points last season and Edinboro won by four in 2001 … In 2000, the Golden Eagles were six-point winners, in 1999 Clarion was a 7-point victor and in 1998 the Golden Eagles won by nine points … Clarion and Edinboro have combined to win three of the past six PSAC-West titles with Clarion winning in 1997 and 2000 and Edinboro winning in 2001 … The two teams have also had almost identical records in the past seven seasons including this one … Clarion is 130-55 overall and 52-25 in the PSAC-West since 1997, while Edinboro 120-70 overall and 50-27 in the PSAC-West.
GAME NOTES: Both Clarion and Edinboro lost their first PSAC-West games on Saturday … Clarion lost a heartbreaker to Shippensburg 67-66 when Ship’s Jeff Madera hit a 45-foot shot at the buzzard … Edinboro lost at California 58-44 Saturday when the Fighting Scots hit on just 33 percent of its shots and 9.1 percent of its three-pointers (1-11) … Clarion’s Terrance Vaughns won the PSAC-West Rookie of the Week award this past week after averaging 13.0 ppg, 8.0 rpg and 2.7 spg over the course of three games last week … Vaughns hit on 6 of 11 three-pointers and had 16 points and nine boards vs. Shippensburg and 12 points, seven rebounds and six steals against Lock Haven Wednesday … Rollie Smith averaged 15.7 ppg last week for Clarion, while Rob Simms scored 15 points and had five rebounds and five assists in Edinboro’s lone game.
