CLARION'S STEVENS SCORES 1,000th CAREER POINT

With 21 points in Clarion’s 76-62 loss at Edinboro Wednesday, senior forward Allen Stevens (Philadelphia/Roman Catholic) became the 22nd player in school history to score 1,000 or more career points.

Stevens, a three-year starter, reached the 1,000-point plateau when he hit a three-pointer with 3:57 left in the game giving him exactly 1,000 career points. A couple of second later Stevens added another basket to put him at 1,002 points, which is where he stands now.

On the year, Stevens is the second leading scorer for the Golden Eagles (7-5 overall, 1-1 PSAC-West) averaging 15.1 ppg.

Last season Stevens was the third leading scorer for Clarion averaging 12.9 points per game (374 points & 29 games) while helping the Golden Eagles to a 19-10 overall record, a 7-5 PSAC-West mark that included the school’s the first ever PSAC Title and Clarion’s second trip to the NCAA Division II tournament.

As a sophomore during the 1999-00 season, Stevens had a break-out season scoring 373 points (13.8 ppg) after recording 74 points in limited action his freshman year.

Also one of the top rebounders for Clarion, Stevens, is second on the team this season averaging 7.0 boards per game. For his career he has 457 rebounds and is 43 boards short of becoming the 20th player in school history to grab 500 or more rebounds in a career.

By reaching the 1,000-point plateau, Stevens is the second current Golden Eagle to score over 1,000 points in a career joining fellow senior David Shearer who has 1,121 points.

If Stevens reaches the 1,000-point plateau he will become the second current Golden Eagle to have scored over 1,000 points in a career joining fellow senior forward David Shearer. Shearer went over the 1,000-point mark last season.

It is only the fifth time in school history that Clarion has had two 1,000-point scorers on the same team at the same time. The other times it has happened in 1976-77 (Carl Grinage & Terry Roseto), 1979-80 (Alvin Gibson & Don Chojnacki), 1981-82 (Chris Roosevelt & Joe Malis) and 1996-97 (Oronn Brown & Jamie Polak).
