KEVIN RIGBY NAMED NATIONAL DEFENSIVE “PLAYER OF THE WEEK”
(CLARION, PA): Kevin Rigby, a 6-2, 215-pound, senior, outside linebacker at Clarion University, was named by D-2Football.com as its national NCAA Division II Football Defensive “Player of the Week”, for games played September 30th.
Rigby posted 13 tackles, 4 tackles for loss of -7 yards, 2 fumbles caused, 1 fumble recovery, in interception and 1 pass defensed in the Golden Eagles game on Saturday night versus Slippery Rock. His effort was recognized despite Clarion’s 31-7 loss.
“Kevin made some really big plays in that game,” said Clarion first year head coach Jay Foster. “He stepped up his game and was a true leader on the field through his play. He deserves this honor and we’re really excited for him.”
West Texas A&M’s Dalton Bell was the national offensive player of the week and Eric Schwan of Northern State was the Special Teams “Player of the Week”.
In 2006 Rigby now totals 32 tackles, 5 tfl’s, 1 qb sack, 1 break-up, 2 fumbles caused and 2 interceptions on the season. In his career (2003, 04, 05 & 06) he has made 163 hits, 18 tfl’s, 8 sacks, 4 fumbles caused, 6 interceptions and 9 break-ups. He was a third team FB Gazette East Region selection in 2004 with 54 hits, 6 sacks and 10 tfl’s on the season.
The son of Jeff and Carol Rigby of Cortland, Ohio, he is a graduate of Lakeview High School. Kevin is a Marketing major at Clarion.
CLARION NOTES: Rigby was also honored on Monday as the PSAC-West defensive “Player of the Week” for his efforts … This is the second football player honored this season as a national player of the week… In week #3 versus West Chester, junior wide receiver Pierre Odom was named the D-2Football.com national Co-Offensive “Player of the Week… In spite of a 49-21 loss to West Chester, Odom grabbed 6 passes for 246 yards and 1 td… The 247 receiving yards were the second best single game performance in Clarion history and 8th in PSAC history… Clarion currently has an 0-5 overall record and hosts Cheyney this Saturday at 2pm at Memorial Stadium…
