CLARION GOLFERS TIE FOR FIRST AT GLENVILLE

FINISH 5TH AT OHIO VALLEY INVITATIONALS

(Glenville, West Virginia): Clarion University and Fairmont State’s golf teams ended regulation in a first place tie on Monday at the Glenville State Invitational Golf Tournament with 36-hole team scores of 590.

To determine a team champion, the fifth man’s score is used to break the tie and Fairmont was declared the team champion with Clarion ending second. Ten teams participated in the tournament.

Leading Clarion were freshman Jared Schmader (Cooperstown/Maplewood) and sophomore Nick Sanner (Markleton/Rockwood) who finished second with scores of even par 142. Schmader shot identical 71's, while Sanner fired a 73, 69 combination.

Placing 15th was Preston Mullens (Sr. Emporium/Cameron County) with a 73, 77 - 150, while Justin Cameron was 33rd (Jr. Punxsutawney) with a 78, 78 - 156. Senior Justin Moose (N. Huntingdon/Norwin) was 34th with a 79, 78 - 157.

Also over the weekend at Mineral Wells, West Virginia, Clarion also placed 5th of 19 teams in the Ohio Valley Invitational Tournament.

IUP was first with a 573, West Liberty second with a 579, Fairmont third with a 585 and Clarion fifth with a 594.

Sanner was Clarion’s top golfer finishing 14th with a 73, 72 - 145 score. He was followed with a 17th place finish from Schmader (72, 74 - 146) and Mullens (76, 70 - 146), while Moose was 22nd with a 148 (74, 74).

Rounding out the team was Justin Cameron’s 154 (79, 75) placing 55th and Sean Foust who shot 79, 76 - 155 and ended 67th. Foust is a sophomore from A.C. Valley HS.

Clarion will next host the Hal Hansen Invitational Tournament on Sept. 16 and 17 at Clarion Oaks Golf Course in Clarion.
