IUP LEADS TIGHT EAST REGION GOLF FIELD

(JACKSON, NJ)---All eight teams are within eleven shots of the lead after day one of the NCAA East Region Golf Tournament. Indiana (PA) holds a four-shot lead over Clarion and a five-stroke edge over Charleston and West Liberty State with a 311 total at the Pine Barrens Golf Club.

High winds affected play as no individual broke par. West Liberty State's Matt Hicks owns the individual lead after the first of three rounds with a one-over par 73. IUP's Graham Hill carded a 74, while Greg Lemenchick (Ohio Valley) and Jeff Messenger (Fairmont State) each came in with 75's. Shepherd's David Bradshaw and Concord's Don Jones round out the top five with matching 76's.

IUP also got help from Brian Galica (77) and Thomas Facciani (79) to build their slim lead. Tuesday's second round is set for an 8:00 a.m. start with lighter winds expected in Southern New Jersey.
