CLARION LINEBACKER MATT MORRIS NAMED THIRD TEAM ALL-AMERICAN
Clarion junior linebacker Matt Morris
(Boiling Springs), was named as a third team All-America linebacker on the Don
Hansen - Football Gazette NCAA Division II All-America team for 2005.
Morris, a 6-1, 215-pound, junior,
inside linebacker for the Golden Eagles, had an outstanding season in 2005. He
led the entire PSAC in tackles for loss (22), solo tfl’s (14), and tfl’s per
game (1.8). In addition Matt was second in the PSAC in tackles per game (10.2)
and total tackles (102). His 2005 season stats showed 102 tackles (57 solo), 22
tfl’s for -51 yards, 4 qb sacks and he scored a touchdown.
His top games of 2005 included being
named PSAC-West “Defensive Player of the Week” against Kutztown with 15 tackles
and 4 tfl’s, along with 11 tackles and 5 tfl’s versus Slippery Rock and 11 stops
and 3 tfl’s against Edinboro.
In 2004 he was second on the team with 88 tackles, including 40 solo, plus 17
tfl’s for -32 yards, 2 sacks, 2 interceptions, 1 fumble recovered and 1 blocked
kick.
In three years at Clarion Morris has
now accumulated 249 tackles, 45 tfl’s, 7 sacks, 6 fumble recoveries and four
interceptions. He is the son of William and Diane Morris of Boiling Springs and
is a Management major at Clarion.
CLARION NOTES: Clarion posted
a 3-7 record in 2005... Head coach Malen Luke resigned following the season and
the school is searching for a new head coach... Players from 68 schools are
represented on the Football Gazette All-America team which includes First,
Second and Third Team choices, along with a very limited Honorable Mention
listing... Morris All-America honors give Clarion 79 All-Americans in the last
23 years.
