LUKE RESIGNS AS CLARION UNIVERSITY FOOTBALL COACH
Malen Luke, the head football coach
at Clarion University from 1994-2005, resigned from his position today.
“I have accepted Malen’s resignation
as head football coach at Clarion,” said President Joseph P. Grunenwald. “We
thank Malen for his twelve years of dedicated service to Clarion University and
wish him well in his future endeavors.”
The search process will begin
immediately. “We will immediately form a search committee and conduct a
nationwide search for his replacement,” acknowledged Dr. Grunenwald.
Luke, 52, has been the head football
coach at Clarion for 12 years (1994-2005) and amassed an overall record of
57-74.
“I really enjoyed my twelve years
here at Clarion,” said Luke. “I want to thank the university for the opportunity
to lead this program, along with the alumni and area community for their support
during my tenure. I just feel its time to move on.”
Luke had four winning seasons during
his tenure. He was 6-4 in 1995, and in 1996 he led Clarion to an 11-3 overall
record, a first place finish in the PSAC-West (5-1), and an NCAA Division II
Playoff run that ended in the semifinals with a 19-18 loss to Northern Colorado.
The Eagles were also Lambert Cup winners. The 2000 team was 7-4 overall and 5-1
in winning the PSAC-West. In 2002 the Golden Eagles also were 7-4 overall.
Clarion finished 3-7 in 2005 and 1-5
in the PSAC-West. Other seasons coached by Luke include 1994 (4-6), 1997 (3-7),
1998 (3-8), 1999 (3-7), 2001 (4-7), 2003 (3-8) and 2004 (3-8).

Clarion’s football record since 1926 is 358-301-17 ... Jacks was the winningest
coach in Clarion history with a 128-46-5 (72.9%) mark including 6 PSAC-West
titles and three PSAC crowns.
