Shippensburg Runs Past Clarion 44-0

(CLARION, PA): Shippensburg fullback John Kuhn rushed for 111 yards and five touchdowns to lead #17 ranked Shippensburg to a 44-0 win over Clarion at Memorial Stadium on Saturday night.

Shippensburg, also ranked #2 in the Northeast Region, upped their overall record to 8-1 and 4-1 in the PSAC-West. Clarion dropped to 3-6 overall and 1-3 in the PSAC-West.

Shipp recovered a Clarion fumble on the Golden Eagle 18 yard line in the first quarter and Kuhn capped the drive with a 1-yard run to give the Red Raiders a 7-0 lead at 3:46 of the first.

Shipp took advantage of another Clarion miscue in the second quarter when the punt snap was high for Eagle punter Joe Farkas and the Raiders took over at the Clarion 37. Eight plays later Kuhn capped the short drive on a 3-yard run and Shipp led 14-0 with 6:28 left before intermission.

Shippensburg’s Jamie Reeder booted a 26-yard field goal with 39-seconds left before intermission to give Shipp a 17-0 lead.

Kuhn came on in the third quarter and scored three more touchdowns on runs of 6, 5 and 7 yards to stake the Raiders to a 38-0 third quarter lead.

Matt Acri finished the scoring for Shippensburg on a 1-yard run in he fourth quarter.

The Golden Eagles ventured into Shipp territory three times but could not score.

Clarion managed only 90 yards of offense including 16 rushing yards and 74 passing. Marcus Lowe had 24 rushing yards on 8 carries, while Brandon Dando completed 6 of 17 passes for 74 yards. Pierre Odom caught 4 passes for 49 yards.

Shippensburg had 376 yards of offense including 228 rushing and 148 passing. Kuhn led the running game with 24 carries for 111 yards and 3 td’s, plus caught 1 pass for 17 yards. Quarterback Tony Gomez copleted 8 of 14 passes for 148 yards.

Clarion’s defense was led by free safety Bo Busch who had 13 tackles and 1 tfl. Matt Morris had 11 stops and 1 tfl, while Ben Heisel had 2 sacks.

Clarion travels to IUP next week, while Shippensburg returns home to play Slippery Rock
