Clarion Defeats Glenville 21-7
(CLARION, PA): Clarion qb Brandon Dando passed and ran for a touchdown and defensive back Dwaon Woodard returned an interception for a touchdown as the Golden Eagles defeated Glenville 21-7 on Saturday night at Memorial Stadium.
Clarion raised its overall record to 2-2, while Glenville dropped to 0-4.
With Clarion trailing 7-0, Dando scored on a 5-yard run with 1:33 remaining in the first quarter to tie the game 7-7.
Clarion had great field position at the Pioneer 19 after a 14-yard Glenville punt. Dando completed 5-yard passes to Joe Farkas and Ron Rivage to the Pioneer 10, then rolled right and tossed a 9-yard scoring toss to Marcus Lowe for a 14-7 lead with 1:12 left in the third.
Clarion cornerback Dwaon Woodard put the game away when he picked off a Jared Stephens pass at the Glenville 44 and returned it to the endzone for a touchdowm. Kyle Snoke’s PAT with 4:19 remaining gave Clarion a 21-7 win.
Clarion posted 261 yards of total offense including 182 rushing and 79 passing. Dando ran 20 times for 44 yards and 1 td, plus completed 9 of 15 passes for 79 yards and 1 td. Running back Marcus Lowe had 28 rushes for 109 yards, and caught 2 passes for 34 yards and 1 td.
Clarion’s “D” was led by Woodard who had 3 tackles, 4 break ups, 1 interception return for a td and returned 3 punts for 46 yards. Matt Morries had 9 tackles, blocked a field goal and 1 interception, and Zach Gourley notched 8 stops and 2 tfl’s.
Glenville totaled 269 yards including 119 rushing and 150 passing. Freshman qb Jared Stephens completed 9 of 28 passes for 150 yards and 1 td with 2 interceptions. Starting qb Joey Conrad left the game with an injury on Glenville’s first series and did not return.
Arthur Bryant rushed for 46 yards on 18 tries and Antonio Carter grabbed 2 passes for 62 yards.
Dennis Stanton led the Glenville’s “D” with 15 tackles, 2 tfl’s and 1 sack.
Clarion returns to Memorial Stadium next Saturday for a 6pm game against California in the PSAC-West opener for both teams.
Glenville visits Concord next Saturday.
