CLARION= S BUSCH & HEISEL NAMED FB GAZETTE FIRST TEAM

Clarion free safety Bo Busch (Jr. Vandalia, OH. - Butler) and defensive lineman Ben Heisel (Sr. Pittsburgh - North Catholic) were named today as first team selections to the Football Gazette Northeast Region team, produced by Don Hansen.

Also named to the second team were offensive center Zack Snyder (So. Akron, Ohio), while third team selections were offensive guard Eric Deliere (Jr. Washington - McGuffy), defensive end Kevin Rigby (Cortland, Ohio - Lakeview HS) and cornerback and return specialist Dwaon Woodard (So. Erie - Central).

Busch, a 5-11, 190, junior, free safety, led the entire PSAC in tackles with 119 (50 solo) and was tied for first in fumbles caused with 4. He also contributed 3 tfl= s, 2 interceptions and 5 broken-up passes.

Earlier this year Busch was named as a third team AP All-American, along with first team PSAC-West honors. In 2003 Busch was a third team Football Gazette All-Region selection and a second team PSAC-West choice while posting 80 tackles, 2 tfl= s, 3 int= s, 4 fumbles caused, 1 sack and 1 blocked punt return for a touchdown. In his three year career as a starter Bo has collected 277 tackles,10 fumbles caused, 6 int= s, 5 tfl= s, 11 pass break-ups and 2 fumble recoveries. Bo, a Clarion A Scholar Athlete@ , is the son of Luci Busch and is a Management major at Clarion.

Heisel, a 6-2, 270-pound, defensive lineman, led the entire PSAC with 18 tackles for loss for 63 yards, including 6 qb sacks for - 28 yards. He notched 48 tackles, recovered 1 fumble and blocked a field goal attempt at IUP. Ben was also honored by D2 Football.com as a second team Northeast Region choice and was a first team PSAC selection. Last year Heisel had 36 stops, 13 tfl= s, 5 sacks and 2 fumble recoveries. In his career he finished with 90 hits, 35 tfl= s for -109 yards, 12 sacks for -55 yards, 3 fumbles caused, 3 fumble recoveries and a blocked kick. Ben is a Management major at Clarion and is the son of Ben and Becky Heisel.

Snyder, a 6-5, 310-pound, offensive center, earned his second team region selection as a first year starter at center in 2004. He started all 11 games. Clarion averaged 149.9 rushing yards per game and scored 19 rushing td= s in 2004. As a freshman in 2003 Snyder started at right tackle and was named to the D-2 Football Northeast Region All-Freshman team. A big, mobile and strong lineman, he has the ability to dominate the line of scrimmage. Zack is the son of Dan and Noleen Snyder and is a Secondary Ed major at Clarion.

Deliere, a 6-2, 300-pound, left offensive guard at Clarion, earned his third team region honors at guard.

A three-year starter, he is a powerful run blocker. He was a second team PSAC-West choice in 2004. Clarion averaged 149.9 rushing yards per game and scored 19 rushing td= s. The Eagles also averaged 119.5 passing yards for a total offense of 269.5 yards per game. In his freshman year (2002), Clarion ranked #6 in the NCAA in rushing yards per game at 273. Eric is an Environmental Biology major at Clarion and is the son of Dale and Susanne Deliere.

Rigby, a 6-2, 210-pound, defensive end/outside linebacker, earned his third team All-Region honor by posting 54 tackles, 10 tfl= s for -35 yards, 6 sacks for -29, 2 interceptions, 2 fumbles recovered and 2 broken-up passes. Also a second team PSAC-West choice this year, Kevin was PSAC-West Defensive A Player of the Week@ for his effort at IUP where he had 10 tackles and 3 qb sacks in holding IUP to only 35 rushing yards. In two seasons Kevin has collected 67 tackles, 10 tfl= s, 6 sacks, 3 int= s, 3 break-ups and 2 fumbles recovered. He is the son of Jeff and Carol Rigby and is a Business major.

Woodard, a 5-10, 170-pound, defensive corner and return specialist, earned third team All-Region honors at both positions. He posted 53 tackles (37 solo), with 1 tfl, 2 fumble recoveries, 3 interceptions (1 returned for a td), 11 pass break-ups and 1 blocked punt. He was PSAC-West Defensive A Player of the Week@ two times for performances against Mansfield and Glenville. As a punt returner he notched 20 returns fro 224 yards with an 11.2 yard per return average, plus 10 kickoff returns for 186 yards. Woodard is the son of Pamella Ford and is a Math major at Clarion.

CLARION NOTES: Clarion finished the 2004 season with a 3-8 overall record and a 1-5 mark in the PSAC-West ... Clarion had a very strong schedule this season ... The record of the teams that accounted for Clarion= s 8 losses were a combined 58-35... Four of those teams were in the NCAA D-II Playoffs... The Eagles lost in the final minutes to West Chester (17-14) and East Stroudsburg (38-24, while also losing to Edinboro 21-10 and Shippensburg 44-0... Coach Luke has completed 11 seasons at Clarion and has a record of 54-66... He has won 2 PSAC-West titles in 1996 and 2000 and was PSAC-West A Coach of the Year@ during both seasons.
