#14 EAST STROUDSBURG SURVIVES CLARION 38-24
(EAST STROUDSBURG, PA): East Stroudsburg’s Derek Lucas broke a 27-yard td run with 7:04 remaining in the fourth quarter, breaking a 24-24 tie, as the #14 ranked Warriors defeated upset minded Clarion 38-24 Saturday afternoon.
East Stroudsburg, the #1 ranked team in the Northeast Region, upped their record to 6-0, while Clarion dropped to 3-4.
Clarion tied the game at 24 with 11:06 remaining in the fourth quarter on a Brandon Dando 1-yard td run. The drive to tie the game went 81-yards and took 16 plays. Dando was 3 for 3 for 28 yards passing, plus rushed 3 times for 16 yards in the drive.
The Warriors then took the kickoff and traveled 69-yards in 8 plays to score the game-winner on Lucas’ 27-yard run.
Clarion drove to the Warrior 47, but the drive stalled and Clarion turned the ball over on downs with 1:58 left in the game. ESU’s Lucas bolted 39-yards on the first play from scrimmage to seal the victory 38-24.
Clarion totaled 330 yards of offense on the day including 170 rushing and 160 passing. Dando completed 18 of 30 passes for 160 yards, plus ran 17-times for 6 yards and 2 td’s.
Tailback Marcus Lowe rushed 14-times for 119 yards and 1 td.
Clarion’s defense had Bo Busch make 11 tackles, while Dwaon Woodard added 10 and 1 break-up.
East Stroudsburg collected 507 yards of offense including 288 rushing and 219 passing.
QB Jimmy Terwilliger completed 15 of 28 passes for 219 yards and 2 td’s. Lucas rushed 17 times for 156 yars and 2 td’s, while Anthony Carfagno had 10 rushes for 76 yards.
Tim Strenfel caught 6 passes for 89 yards.
Tyree Townes posted 12 tackles and Henry Breckenridge had 11 stops and 1 sack.
Clarion controlled the first half of play. ESU took a 6-0 lead with 12:08 to play in the first when Terwilliger hit a 2-yard td pass to Evan Prall.
Clarion took the lead 7-6 when Dando engineered a 65-yard drive in 9-plays. Dando’s 1-yard qb sneak capped the drive with 8:41 left in the first.
On Clarion’s next possession the Eagles took a 10-6 lead when Kyle Snoke booted a 43-yard field goal with 2:32 left in the first.
The Golden Eagles Marcus Lowe broke a 71-yard td run with 3:27 left in the second quarter giving Clarion a 17-6 advantage.
East Stroudsburg scored a controversial td before halftime. With the clock running inside 10 seconds, ESU complained about the running clock and the officials stopped the clock with 2-seconds remaining. ESU then called timeout and ran its final play of the half, a 1-yard td run by Anthony Carfagno. ESU hit the two-point conversion and Clarion led 17-14 at halftime.
Mark Brubaker’s 25-yard field goal tied the game 17-17 in the third, then Ben Culver grabbed a 23-yard touchdown pass with 1:55 left in the third to give ESU a 24-17 lead.
Clarion’s Dando scored his game-tying td to set up Lucas’ final two scores.
