BLOOMSBURG – Led by All-PSAC performances from Chris Clark, Bill Herrmann and Sean McFarland, the Clarion University men’s cross country team finished third at the PSAC Championships Saturday at Bloomsburg with 107 points.

The third-place ending is a school best bettering the previous mark of sixth place in 1981.

Clark led the way for the Golden Eagles finishing third, the highest finish by a men's runner in school history, in a time of 25:58. It is the second straight Top 10 finish and second straight All-PSAC award for the junior, who was 10th last year.

Herrmann was next for Clarion in 14th place (27:10), while McFarland was right behind him in 15th place (27:14). The Top 20 runners earned All-PSAC honors.

Josh Foulds gave the Golden Eagles four runners in the Top 35 with a 31st place ending (27:41.8), while Travis Cyphert was 44th (28:08), Adam Sencak 67th (29:02.8) and Sean Williams 74th (29:46).

Lock Haven won the PSAC title with 45 points, and Edinboro was second with 100. Clark finished two seconds behind Slippery Rock’s Jeff Weiss for second place and 14 seconds back of PSAC Champion Ryan Blood of Lock Haven.

WHEATLEY LEADS CLARION WOMEN TO SEVENTH PLACE FINISH

Behind an All-PSAC performance by senior Tasha Wheatley, Clarion’s women’s cross country team finished in seventh at the PSAC Championships Saturday at Bloomsburg with 163 points.

Wheatley finished a career-best fifth in a time of 23:35 giving the Golden Eagles an All-PSAC performer for the first time since Melissa Terwilliger finished ninth in 2004. Her fifth-place ending was the best by a Clarion runner since Terwilliger finished third in 2003.

Overall, the Golden Eagles, who were running without No. 1 runner Erin Richard, had three runners in the Top 35.

Freshman Kaycee Shaffer was 28th in a time of 24:53, while Kate Ehrensberger was 35th in a time of 25:20.

Meghan Conroy (47th – 25:49), Autumn Shaffer (48th – 25:51) and Caitlin Palko (53rd – 26:15) also gave solid performances for Clarion, which finished seventh for the second straight year.

Edinboro won the PSAC title with 61 points led by Rachel Lanzel’s PSAC winning time of 22:20.
