WOMEN 1ST - MEN 7TH AT DUQUESNE INVITATIONAL

PITTSBURGH – Clarion University’s men’s and women’s cross country teams were in action Friday at the Duquesne Invitational. The Golden Eagles women’s team won the nine-team event, while the men’s team finished seven of nine teams.

Clarion’s women placed five runners in the top 13 to outdistance second-place finisher the University of Pittsburgh 49-54.

Anna Beck was the Golden Eagles top finisher taking seventh place in 18:55, while Jen Boerner was eighth in 19:18. Melissa Terwilliger finished ninth in 19:30, Kathryn Szafran was 12th in 19:35 followed by Bridget Sardo in 13th place also in 19:35. Rounding out the top seven for the Golden Eagles were Evelyn Abiola in 24th place (19:54) and Katie Jarzab in 31st place (20:15).

On the men’s side, Clarion scored 176 points, three back of sixth-place Dayton. Duquesne won the meet with 28 points.

Chris Noal was the Golden Eagles top runner finishing 29th in a time of 28:46. A.J. Mayernik was 31st (29:12) followed by John Snyder (33rd – 29:21), Matt Andreassi (37th – 30:12) and Matt Hartsock (46th – 30:37). Rounding out the top seven for the Golden Eagles were Matt Reinhold in 50th place (30:58) and Aaron Neely in 56th (31:49).
