CLARION’S PETROWSKY NAMED PSAC-WEST BASEBALL

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

            Clarion University freshman shortstop Matt Petrowsky (Johnstown/Bishop McCort) is the PSAC-West baseball Player of the Week for the week ending with games April 9.

            Petrowsky hit .429 for the week (9-for-21) while helping the Golden Eagles go 3-3 including 3-1 in PSAC-West play.

            During the four PSAC-West games against Lock Haven Saturday an Sunday he hit .467 (7 of 15) with a double, two home runs and six RBI. He hit home runs in each of the first two contests – a pair of Golden Eagle wins – including a tiebreaking bomb in the bottom of the sixth in Game Two. He added a 3-for-5 day at the plate with three RBI in Game Two Sunday, an 8-2 Clarion win.

            On the season, Petrowsky is second on the team with a .376 average in 26 games. He has three home runs, eight doubles and a triple to go with 13 RBI and three stolen bases. He has also scored 18 runs. His average ranks 18th in the PSAC and third among freshmen, while he ranks 10th in doubles per game (0.31) and first among freshmen.

            GOLDEN EAGLE NOTES – Clarion returned to action Tuesday when it hosted Point Park. Going into the non-conference doubleheader, the Golden Eagles were 7-19 overall and 3-5 in the PSAC-West. Last season, Clarion was Co-Champion of the PSAC-West with a record of 25-22-1 and 12-8 in the conference … Petrowsky is Clarion’s first Player of the Week since Kevin Gledhill won the second of two consecutive POW’s April 18, 2005.
