EAGLES IN PSAC’S FOR FIRST TIME SINCE ‘84 This is Clarion’s first PSAC Playoff appearance since 1984 when the Golden Eagles finished second. Clarion is looking for its first PSAC Title since 1967, the only year the Golden Eagles have taken home first place. CLARION PSAC-WEST CO-CHAMPIONS Clarion is the PSAC Co-Champion with California, Shippensburg and Slippery Rock. All four teams finished at 12-8 and Clarion earned the No. 1 seed from the West in the playoffs thanks to a 7-5 mark against the other three, the best of the group. It is Clarion’s first PSAC-West title since 1984 when the Golden Eagles went 10-4. FREY ANCHORS PITCHING STAFF Sr. southpaw Jared Frey anchors the Golden Eagles pitching staff with a 6-0 record and a 1.32 ERA. He has 40 strikeouts and just 14 walks in 41 innings of work and opponents are hitting .172 against him with seven extra base hits. His 1.32 ERA is currently the best at Clarion since Brad Frazier (who was drafted by the Florida Marlin) had a 1.03 ERA while going 5-3 in 52.1 innings of work in 1992. Frey has a career record of 7-0 at Clarion with a 2.89 ERA. This season was the first time since 2001 that Frey has pitched for Clarion. He missed all of last season with an injury. An accomplished hitter as well, Frey is hitting .387 with 4 home runs and 24 RBI’s this season. In his four seasons at Clarion, he is a .342 career hitter with five home runs and 73 RBI’s. ROLLER SAVES THE DAY Sophomore relief pitcher Chuck Roller has a Clarion record nine saves this season the most in the PSAC. Roller is 2-1 with a 2.00 ERA in 27 innings of work. WARNER, GLEDHILL, RODGERS PACE OFFENSE In addition to Frey, Clarion’s offense is paced by junior catcher Jason Warner, senior rightfielder Kevin Gledhill and freshman designated hitter Corey Rodgers. · Warner is the leading hitter for the Eagles with a .415 average and a team-high 40 RBI’s. He also has 5 home runs. In 3 years at Clarion he is hitting .368 with 5 home runs and 81 RBI’s in 130 games. · Gledhill is hitting .387 with a team-high 6 RBI’s and a league-leading 8 triples. He has 37 RBI’s. In a 3-year career at Clarion he is hitting .344 with 17 HR’s and 114 RBI’s in 141 games. · Rodgers is hitting .371 with 4 home runs and 26 RBI’s. |
