|
Clarion University senior pitcher Bill Young (Grampian/Curwensville) is the PSAC-West pitcher of the week after throwing a three-hit shutout in the first game of a pivotal four-game series against California Thursday, a 3-0 Clarion win. Young struck out six and walked only one while setting the table for Clarion’s 3-1 series advantage, which helped propel the Golden Eagles to a share of the PSAC-West title and the No. 1 seed in the upcoming PSAC Playoffs. It is the second time this season Young has earned Pitcher of the Week honors and the third time a Golden Eagle is the Pitcher of the Week. On the year, Young is 3-4 with a 4.94 ERA while helping Clarion to a 25-20-1 overall record and a 12-8 PSAC-West mark. Clarion has qualified for the PSAC Playoffs for the first time since 1984 and will open postseason play at 12:30 p.m. May 9 against Kutztown at the Shaner Sports Complex in Boalsburg. The tournament is a double-elimination event held over three days. California and Shippensburg representing the PSAC-West and Kutztown, Mansfield and West Chester representing the PSAC-East join Clarion at the PSAC Championships. |
