Clarion Basketball Announces “Take a Kid to the Game” Promotion
All kids 12 and under to receive free admission Sat., Feb. 9 vs. California |

CLARION – The Clarion University athletic department will be hosting its second annual “Take a Kid to the Game Day” promotion when the Golden Eagles men’s and women’s basketball teams host California next Saturday, Feb. 9.
Games time are 5:30 p.m. for the women’s game and 7:30 p.m. for the men’s game and all area kids 12 and under will receive free admission to the see the Golden Eagles doubleheader vs. the Vulcans while also receiving a special souvenir. Gates open at 4:30 p.m.
“We are once again excited to be part of this promotion while trying to generate excitement with the kids in our community,” Clarion athletic director Dave Katis said. “We want them to come out and have a great day here at Clarion.
“This is a great opportunity for families to spend a day together watching Clarion University basketball, and we encourage parents and other adults to join their kids at the game.”
The “Take a Kid to the Game” program is an NCAA promotions series that is in its 13th year. It is meant to get kids involved in and enjoy a variety of athletic events by encouraging adults to take their children to collegiate athletic events.
The two games should be exciting affairs pitting two PSAC-West rivals against each other.
Clarion’s women’s team enters the week with a 13-7 record and a 3-2 mark in the PSAC-West prior to their game vs. Slippery Rock at home Wednesday. Cal’s women, meanwhile, enter play this weekend with a mark of 17-2 and ranked first in the NCAA East Region. Clarion defeated California 69-58 at Tippin Gym last year before losing to the Lady Vulcans in mid-January.
The Golden Eagles men’s team also enters the week above .500 with a 10-9 overall mark and a 2-3 PSAC-West record. Cal goes into this weekend with a mark of 13-4 overall and 4-0 in the PSAC-West. Clarion lost to the Vulcans by 10, 70-60, in mid-January but have won four of the past six meetings vs. California at Tippin Gym.
