Center for Applied Research and Intellectual Property Development

Clarion University has been a continual learning experience for me over the past five years. I am fortunate to be a part of The Center for Applied Research & Intellectual Property Development (CARIPD), an extraordinary outreach program that Clarion University sponsors to give our students the opportunity to tie in hands-on, industry experience with the fundamental education they receive in the classroom.

Our industry partners consider us a resource in the region and have stated that they are impressed that we "teach common sense." Since its inception, CARIPD has worked with over 35 interns ranging from biology, physics, chemistry, and computer information systems; not including the numerous business marketing and MBA students we have worked with through the Clarion University Small Business Development Center (SBDC). Our students have been successful in conducting contract research with over a dozen companies and have implemented one patent, with a second patent in progress. Every student that has participated in CARIPD has gone on to excellent jobs or graduate programs. The most satisfying part of my position is when I hear back from a CARIPD alumni and I see how far they have gone.
