Clarion University hosts day-long forestry conference

Clarion University Department of Biology will host the 2019 Clarion Forest Landowner Conference from 8 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. Feb. 16 at Grunenwald Science and Technology Center, Clarion campus. The theme is “Making the Most of Your Forests.”

The Forest Landowner Conference is an all-day conference designed to help forest landowners understand some of the management options that are available to them. The knowledge gained from this conference will prepare participants to make sustainable management decisions for their forestland so a healthy and diverse forest will remain for many years to come.

Sessions, presented by field experts, include: Invasive Plant ID and Management, Native Deer-Proof Landscaping, Proper Tree Selection & a Holistic Approach to Habitat, Improving Wildlife Habitat in Your Backyard, Spotted Lanternfly & Spotted Wing Drosphila, Plant and Maintain Healthy Landscape Trees, Deer Impacts on the Forest Health, and Appreciating Wildflowers.

Conference sponsors are Clarion County Forest Stewardship Committee, Penn State Extension, Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, and Woodland Owners of Clarion Allegheny Valley.
