Speaker Rizzo inspires overcoming obstacles

February 15, 2018

Darrick RizzoAuthor and motivational speaker Darrick Rizzo will present “Overcome and Keep it Moving” at 7 p.m. Feb. 20 in the multi-purpose room of Gemmell Student Complex, Clarion University. Sponsored by the Office of Minority Services, the event is free and open to the public.

At age 18, Rizzo was forced to give up his son for adoption, sparking a lifelong quest to reconnect with him. He candidly recounts the quest in his book, "The Open Adoption: A Birth Father's Story." Now a successful businessman and leader in his community, he shares his experience with other young men and women by bringing his story to colleges and inspiring youth to overcome their own obstacles.

"Overcoming obstacles is a lifelong journey. The past may try to pull you down, but you can stand tall," Rizzo said. "I didn't run from adversity. I stood my ground and continue to do so."
