English and Modern Languages announces major of each month

The Department of English and Modern Languages has named its major of the month for each month since September.

Major of the Month for May is Mallory Piercy. Mallory is a secondary English major from Seneca. She graduated from Cranberry High School. Her parents are Jennifer and Greg Piercy. She is active in Kappa Delta Pi National Education Honors Society, Student PSEA and University Council for the Social Studies. Her plans are to be an English teacher and later pursue a career in the field of education law and policy.

Major of the Month for April was Imarii Anderson, who is a secondary English education major. Anderson is the daughter of Sonya and Michael Anderson of Erie. She is a graduate of Collegiate Academy. Her activities include English Club, Tobeco and Phi Sigma Sigma.

"I plan on getting a degree in Secondary Ed. English and then teaching English abroad," Anderson said.

Hannah R. Collings was the March Major of the Month. Collings is majoring in secondary education English. Her parents are Mary and Donald Collings of Beaver. She was homeschooled. While at Clarion, Hannah has been a reporter for The Clarion Call, published in Tobeco Literary Arts Journal, and is a member of Crossroads Christian Fellowship.

Her future plans include teaching English at a high school level and helping students flourish. She is excited that God has given her this opportunity to love Him through serving students and is excited to bring them hope through the life given to her by Jesus Christ.

Mel Twain was Major of the Month for February. He is pursuing a Bachelor of Art in English. Paulla Jones of Philadelphia is his mother. He graduated from LaSalle College High School.

Mel was published in Tobeco, a literary arts journal. His future plans include being financially independent.

Major of the Month for December was Tyler Hilbert, a secondary education English and social studies major. He is the son of Andy and Shannon Hilbert of Callensburg. He is a graduate of Keystone High School. He is a member of the Honors Program; president of Clarion University Council of the Social Studies; and treasurer of the History Club. He hopes to return to his high school and teach English or history before becoming a professor.

Major of the Month for November was Derrick Watson II, an English major. He is the son of Michele Gordon and Derrick A. Watson, Sr. of Philadelphia. He is a graduate of Freire Charter School. His involvement includes Clarion University Odyssey. His future plans are to become a screen writer.

October's Major of the Month was Chelsye Bridegam. She is a secondary Spanish education major. Her parents are Marion and Julie Bridegam of Edinburg. She attended Mohawk High School. She participates in Rock Climbing Club, Spanish Club, concert choir, and is a Spanish tutor. Bridegam plans to graduate in May of 2018 and find a job as a high school Spanish teacher.

Samantha Beal was the September Major of the Month. She is an English major with minor in Communication. She is the daughter of Jon and Elizabeth Beal of Knox. She is a graduate of Keystone High School. Her hobbies include anything dealing with English as she loves to read, write and edit, but also enjoys being a member of French Club and Sigma Tau Delta, and engaging in adventurous, exciting activities.

"I am learning all I can involving writing in order to continue my work as a journalist, preferably for magazines. My greatest dream is to be a full-time author," Beal said.
