'You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown' opens July 28 at Clarion University's Marwick-Boyd Little Theatre.

The 2016 Clarion University Summer Musical Theatre will present “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown,” opening at 7:30 p.m. July 28 in Marwick-Boyd Little Theatre.

Based on the comic strip “Peanuts®” by Charles M. Schulz, “You’re a Good Man…” follows some of your favorite characters through an average day in the life of Charlie Brown.

It's an endearing musical, depicting the honesty and openness of young children, as they explore and play through life's little moments.
The show is directed and choreographed by Drew Leigh Williams ('08), an instructor of theatre in the department of visual and performing arts. She is bringing this 1967 classic to new heights, presenting the 1999 Revised version, complete with fun, upbeat songs and amusement for the whole family.

"It's a timeless comic, and I know it will be enjoyable for audiences of all ages," said Shayla Barrett of Johnstown, a sophomore theatre major and production stage manager.

The cast includes sophomore musical theatre majors Nathan Bunyon of Collegeville, Betsy Novotny of Homestead and Whitney Jefferson of Washington, D.C. Joining them are Kevin Bradley, Greyson Knepp and understudy Keira Vinson, all of Clarion. Making her stage debut is recent graduate Becky Frampton of Fisher (M.S. '16).

Scenic design is provided by Robert Gerald Levy, chair of the visual and performing arts department. Thomas Feather of Windber, a junior technical theatre major, is lighting designer, and senior acting majors Logan Honsaker of Twinsburg, Ohio, and Samuel Atwell of St. Marys are designing props and costumes, respectively. Musical direction is provided by Brooke Maxwell ('12).

"(Charlie Brown) is a genuine and heartfelt comedy that rings true to life in many ways. It's a brilliant, multifaceted piece of entertainment," Frampton said.

Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. July 28-30 and Aug. 3-6 with a 2 p.m. matinee July 31. All performances are on the Clarion campus. Tickets are $12/adult, $9/children 12 and under, and free for Clarion University students with valid ID.
