European speaker, professor offers workshop at Clarion

November 10, 2015

Clarion’s College of Business Administration and Information Sciences will hold a faculty research workshop at 3:30 p.m. Nov. 12 in 111 Still Hall.

The workshop will feature Jordi Escartin, associate professor of social and organizational behavior in the psychology department of the University of Barcelona. Escartin's presentation, "Understanding and Preventing Counterproductive Work Behaviors: The Case of Workplace Bullying," examines the causes and consequences of bullying in a professional atmosphere.

This workshop specifically looks into four aspects of current research regarding this subject. It questions general assumptions that workplace bullying victims are viewed as troublemakers; it examines enacted negative behaviors as responses to bullying in order to understand consequences of bullying; it looks at the role of psychosocial safety climates as antecedents of bullying climates; and it questions if positive peer and supervisor relationships are complementary or replaceable when protecting against workplace bullying.

Research is based on various theories, methodologies and different participant profiles.

This event is open to the public. Contact COBIAS workshop coordinators Gustavo Barboza, professor of administrative sciences, at gbarboza@clarion.edu, or Matthew Brigida, associate professor of finance, at mbrigida@clarion.edu for further information.
