Becht Hall meets students' needs

August 24, 2015

The newly renovated Becht Hall was redesigned with the student in mind. It’s a centralized place for students to go to get their questions answered and their needs met.

All of the office relocations were completed last week so it is ready for use by students and their families, faculty and staff.

"Our philosophy is to make it as easy and efficient for students to get the support and resources they need in one physical location," said Clarion University Provost Ron Nowaczyk. "We also are moving more of our routine services online to enhance student service."

Upon entering the first floor lobby, students will be greeted by the Becht Hall Resource Desk with student workers ready to direct students and families, who have questions or concerns about admissions, residence life, student financial services, and registration.

The Resource Desk staff will be able to answer questions and efficiently resolve the most common concerns of students and their families. If the Resource Desk staff cannot resolve the problem, then they will be able to direct the student or the family to the person in Becht who can. Students who have questions or concerns about admissions, residence life, student financial services, and registration should stop first at the Resource Desk.

The lobby also includes kiosks for students to conduct specific types of business such as reviewing financial aid, registering for classes, checking email, checking their status, applying for graduation and requesting transcripts.
The reason for these kiosks is so students, who don't own their own computers, may be able to conduct business right then and there with help readily available to them, said Pam Gent, associate vice president of Academic Affairs.

"We're just trying to make it as convenient as possible for students, while providing them good customer service," Gent said.

Also on the first floor, students will find the Registrar, Student Financial Services, Clarion Online and Distance Education, Computer Help Desk and a coffee bar.

The second floor will house Residence Life, Judicial and Mediation Services, Auxiliary Operations, and the Center for Wellness.

On the third floor, students will find Admissions, Honors, ROTC, Learning and Writing Lab, Tutoring and Testing, and Disabilities Support Services.

The fourth floor will be the home to Career Services, the Office of International Programs, Minority Student Affairs, SOAR, Student Success, Advising Center, TRIO Student Support Program, Meditation Room, veteran's lounge, ROTC lounge and the international lounge.
