Olivas-Luján participates at international business conference in Colombia

May 6, 2014

Dr. Miguel R. Olivas-Luján, professor in the Clarion University Department of Management and Marketing, presented a co-authored paper, "CEMEX in Asia: Latin American Expatriates in the Far East," at the Academy of International Business, Latin American chapter. The conference took place March 20-22 at EAFIT Universidad, Medellín, Colombia. In his role as editor for the U.K.-based "Advanced Series in Management," Olivas-Luján also participated on a panel titled "Researching and Publishing on Latin America and by Latin American Researchers," along with a group of well-known researchers from Brazil, Colombia and the United States.

The paper, written by Olivas-Luján and Dr. Sergio M. Madero from Tec de Monterrey, Mexico, has recently been approved for publication in the scholarly book, edited by Peruvian professors Oswaldo Morales Tristán and Armando Borda Reyes, “Casos de Empresas Latinoamericanas en Asia” (CENGAGE Learning, forthcoming).

In the article, Madero and Olivas-Luján challenge readers to use their knowledge of human resources topics such as career challenges and benefits, based on real-life experiences by executives and technical managers from CEMEX, one of the largest construction materials companies in the world. Along with teaching materials, the article is designed to be used throughout Latin American institutions that are rarely able to find similar cases of successful organizations initiated in their region.
