The Beatles are considered one of the most influential music groups of all time. Their music lives on decades after the band broke up, gaining new fans every day. Some fans believe that although their music has survived, one of their members truly died before most of it was originally released. Their theory: Paul McCartney died in 1966 and has been replaced ever since by a body double.
Dr. Todd Pfannestiel will explore the “Paul is dead” theory during his Beatles death hoax presentation at 7:30 p.m. March 31 in Hart Chapel. The presentation is sponsored by the History Club and history department. Pfannestiel will take the long and winding road through clues in Beatles’ songs and album artwork that point to Paul’s supposed death.
Since the news of McCartney’s “death” broke in 1969, fans of the Beatles have discovered allusions to the fact that the other members of the band covered up the incident and continued on with a fake Paul McCartney.
“Beatles fans called ‘cluesters’ have devoted their lives to combing through songs and albums to find all the clues they can. There will be some eerie clues where you shake your head and just say, ‘How awkwardly coincidental is that?’” Pfannestiel said.
