Clarion University Store has new manager, fresh look

February 3, 2014

Anthony MarchewkaWhen customers enter the Clarion University Store, they’ll notice a fresh look to the store, as well as a fresh face keeping business running smoothly.

nthony Marchewka is managing the store as an employee of Neebo, Inc., which last summer was awarded the contract to run the store. Marchewka has worked with Neebo since 2007, most recently managing an off-campus store for Wright State University, Dayton, Ohio.

He had been looking for an opportunity to move to an on-campus store, as well as to relocate closer to Buffalo, N.Y., where he grew up. At Clarion University, he met both goals at once.

John Owens, chairman of Clarion Students’ Association Board of Directors and a current Clarion student, said students were very involved in the process of selecting a new company to manage the store. A primary concern for them was competitive prices in the textbook business.

Through Neebo, The Clarion University Store has implemented a Best Price Promise, Marchewka said.

“If a customer finds a better price on a textbook (unless it’s peer-to-peer), we will match it,” he said.

Textbook rental also allows the store to offer competitive prices. The University Store rents all textbooks. Students can usually save 50 percent or more if they rent their textbooks for a semester.

Because of the store’s affiliation with Neebo, if the Clarion University Store runs out of stock on a textbook, employees can search for it at other Neebo-affiliated school stores to fulfill the order, Marchewka said.

He’s excited about the store’s new clothing layout, which he describes as “fresher and easier to shop.” As customers browse the store, they’ll notice the addition of Nike and Under Armour gear, as well as Perrin and other traditional clothing products, which he describes as high in quality, but lower cost.

Marchewka said the first few weeks of the spring semester have been hectic, but he is enjoying interacting with the Clarion University community.

He and his wife, Kathleen, plan to relocate to the Clarion area at the end of the school year. Their family includes five children and a granddaughter.
