The Western Pennsylvania Chapter of the Society for Conservation Biology (formerly Bios Club) is showing some love to mother earth by hosting various events and seminars celebrating Earth Week, April 21-27.
“Earth Week is important, because as a society at large we neglect to raise awareness of the impact that our actions have on the environment,” said Brianna Henry, president of SCB. “This event series gives us an opportunity to reach out and educate people, inspire them and bring them together for a common cause.”
Events, all free and open to the public, include:

Exotic Animal Show, 7 to 8 p.m. April 21, Gemmell multi-purpose room.

EcoJeopardy with Tarzan, 7 to 8 p.m. April 22, Science and Technology Center, room 120.

Birds of Prey, 7 to 8 p.m. April 23, STC 122.

Night Hike, 7 to 8 p.m. April 24, starting in STC lobby.

Art Show, 5 to 7 p.m. April 25, STC lobby.

Open Mic Night, 7 to 9 p.m. April 25, The Center Closet in Clarion’s 800 Center.
Service opportunities will include road clean-ups, tree planting, canoeing and trash clean-up at Tionesta Dam and a “Walk for Water.”
Information tables will be set up throughout the week in the lobby of STC.
“These events give people the opportunity to step outside of their busy lives for just a moment to attend an animal show, a trash pick-up, a hike in the woods even, and get a little bit closer to nature,” Henry said. “We hope to help people discover new things and start to see the ways that the natural world touches all of us, no matter our age, occupation or major. The movement of that understanding into some form of action is up to the attendees, but our idea is to plant the seed.”
