Dana Nelson, co-captain of the women's basketball team, was honored by the Pennsylvania
State Athletic Conference (PSAC) in March as a First Team All-Conference choice. The
junior point guard led Clarion to its sixth playoff appearance in the last seven seasons.
The Golden Eagles advanced to
the PSAC quarterfinal game before losing to
West Chester University, 71-65.
"Dana played such a vital role in the success of our team this season," said head coach Gie Parsons. "I'm proud to have her on my team and I hope that this honor will propel her into her senior season with confidence and determination."
Nelson led the team with a 14.4 points per game average in 1996-97. She also led Clarion in field goals, free throws, assists, and steals. Nelson broke the single season free throw attempts record of 197 held by Mona Gaffney (1995-96).
A transfer from Division I Rhode Island University, Nelson started the past two seasons for the Golden Eagles.
Nelson, a secondary education/biology major, is a daughter of Gwendolyn Carrington and Douglas Allen from Pittsburgh.
