FINANCIAL AID Applicants for all loans must submit the FAFSA to the federal processor no later than May 1 of each year. Federal Perkins Loan Program Up to $2,000 is awarded annually for graduate students who have the greatest financial need. This is a need-based, 5% loan. Applicants must have an FAFSA application on file in the Office of Financial Aid, be a citizen of the United States, and be enrolled or accepted for enrollment (six-credit minimum) at Clarion University. Applications are available at the Office of Financial Aid after April 15 of each year. Federal Stafford Loan Program This program allows students to borrow from $8,500 to the full cost of tuition, including room, board, and fees. Amounts available for graduate students are:
*Current CU costs do not allow a loan for the Stafford maximum. Interest does not accrue on loans awarded to students who demonstrate financial need, and students do not make any type of payment on this loan until after they graduate, withdraw, or enroll for less than six credits. Students who do not exhibit financial need can borrow unsubsidized Stafford loans and are required to make quarterly interest payments on their loans while they are enrolled. All Stafford loans for new borrowers are subject to a variable interest rate which does not exceed 8.25%. Checks are disbursed directly to Clarion University.
