General Education Program
|
Faculty are encouraged to submit their courses for inclusion in the General Education Program. This page provides directions to assist in that process. The process has the following stages.
To make sure a course is recorded in the official database of General Education courses for a particular semester, a department should begin the process early in the preceding semester. The department should be advised that the notice of the new status will likely not show up in the printed Schedule until a year after the semester the course is approved.
Each course in the General Education Program is there because it meets the requirements of the General Education Program and was submitted by a department for inclusion.
Courses in the University may also carry flags that indicate that they met special requirements, such as being writing intensive(W), focusing on personal values(V), including significant discussion of professional and personal values (S), focusing on quantitative reasoning (Q), linking across categories of knowledge(L), or applying general education skills to a major program(A). V and L flagged courses must be approved as courses in the General Education Program. W, S, Q, and A flagged courses need not be. A course may be submitted simulataneously as a General Education component, as well as for a flag.
General Education Council members are available for answering questions and providing assistance in the submission and approval process.
