Students enrolled in our Honors Program display a history of outstanding academic excellence. They show a keen desire for professional success, and expect to lead the way in creating the future.

Our Honors program adds sizzle to the conventional classroom, plunging you into concentrated, stimulating learning.

Participation in the honors program involves:

  • Specially designed courses taught as special topics by faculty instructors recruited for their scholarly expertise
  • Field experience
  • Curricular and co-curricular themes preparing you for leadership roles
  • Special events contributing to an enhanced academic and social environment.
  • Close interaction with faculty members in informal settings as well as in the classrooms.
  • Learning partnerships with high school programs for the gifted - academically talented students from high schools visit the campus for theater performances, environmental science field trips, and debate tournaments.

Participation in the Honors Program will add a gold star to your résumé!

Requirements for the Honors Program
To remain in the program, you will need to maintain a 3.4 cumulative grade point average. In addition to that, you also must satisfy the academic requirements listed in the table below:

Year

Requirements

Freshman

6 credit Modes of Discourse (linked English and Speech class)
3 credit Humanities course in the Spring Semester

Sophomore

3 credit mathematics or science class and a 3 credit social sciences course.

Junior Year

Junior Seminar which involves developing a project (typically within your major) for the senior presentation.

Senior Year

Honors 450. This is the capstone experience that culminates in a university wide presentation. This senior project is developed individually with a faculty advisor.

As an Honors graduate, you will receive special recognition at commencement ceremonies and your official transcript will indicate that you have completed the Honors Program.

Admission Process
You are eligible to apply for admission to the Honors Program after the first or second semester of your freshman year.

Here is a list of what we are seeking:

  • SAT I scores of 1150 or higher or equivalent ACT scores
  • Graduation in the top 15 percent of the high school class
  • Involvement in extra-curricular activities
  • A short written statement
  • Completion of an interview with the Program Admissions committee.

Scholarship Availability
Most Honors students are recipients of academic scholarships. Scholarships are awarded based on your performance in high school, and from year to year while attending college.

Some of these rewards are renewable if you maintain a high level of academic standing.
