Chemistry
The
Chemistry program at Clarion is oriented toward students
seeking a B.S. degree who choose Chemistry as a professional
goal. This program meets the criteria established by the
American Chemical Society (ACS) Committee on Professional
Training, and students completing the B.S. can obtain
ACS Certification. Clarion University is accredited by
the American Chemical Society. This honor, which has been
given to only about 600 colleges and universities in the
nation, signifies that Clarion has the facilities, offerings,
and faculty necessary to provide professional undergraduate
chemical education meeting the standards of the American
Chemical Society.

Engineering
The
programs have common core requirements in chemistry, but
differ in correlative requirements and elective chemistry
courses.
Independent
study has become virtually a standard part of our students'
experience.
Upper
division students spend one or more semesters working
with a professor on a research project. The accomplishment
of doing independent work engenders great pride and enthusiasm.
We also have a research elective for chemistry education
majors.

have an admirable placement record of alumni in graduate
and professional schools and in industry. They have pursued
graduate studies in chemistry, biochemistry, medicinal
chemistry, and pharmacy at major universities, such as:

Several of our alumni have graduated from the medical
schools at University of Pittsburgh, the Hershey Medical
Center, the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine,
the University of Pennsylvania, and Temple University.
Graduates have found positions in such diverse companies
as Westinghouse Electric, DuPont, UpJohn, PPG Industries,
Witco Chemical Corporation, U.S. Steel, Miller Brewing,
Union Carbide, and Rohm and Haas. Many of our graduates
are teaching in the Pennsylvania schools.
