Resources for 40-Hour Field and Student
Teaching Experiences
Graduate secondary teacher certification students are required to
complete a 40-hour field experience as part of their methods course.
How to
obtain the field experiences:

The Office of Field Services (OFS) must communicate with the
school and make the arrangements for your field experience before you
begin the experience.
·
The field experience must total 40 hours and will completed
during the last 5 weeks of the semester.
·
Please send to the OFS secretary an email giving your present
mailing address.
·
If you live in Pennsylvania, the OFS will set up your field
experience placement based upon close proximity to your home and notify
you.
·
If you live outside of Pennsylvania, please email the name of the
school district(s) where you would like to be placed. The placement
will be made according to this information whenever possible.
·
The OFS will try to set up your field experience and
student teaching placements within the same school.
·
Once your placement has been scheduled, you will receive the
information via email.
The
forms used for the 40 hour field experience are:
Graduate secondary teacher certification students are required to
complete a 12-week student teaching experience as the last course in the
certification program. Whenever possible, both the 40-hour field
and the 12-week student teaching experiences will be scheduled with the
same cooperating teacher in the same school. Please follow the
directions above to help the OFS set up your field experiences.
The
Secondary Teacher Certification Program Cooperating Teacher & Student
Teacher Manual
is to be used by both the student teacher and the cooperating teacher
throughout the student teaching experience.
