Praxis Information
News Release for May 30, 2008:
The
Department recently released Certification and Staffing Policies and
Guidelines (CSPG) No. 21 – Testing, effective May 1, 2008. CSPG No. 21
has been revised to extend test score validity from 5 years to 10 years
for candidates educated in Pennsylvania. Currently, regulatory language
does not permit this extension for test scores to be applied to
out-of-state candidates. All required tests must have been taken within
ten years prior to application, and the score/s must meet the qualifying
score/s in effect on the date the application was received. "CSPG

Praxis I: Reading, Writing and
Math
*The Praxis I consists of 3
1-hour tests in Reading, Writing, and Math. All three must be
passed prior to beginning the methods/block field experience.
There are directions for registering and several tutorial aids available
to help you prepare found below.
Registration:
1. There are two ways to take
the test: paper-based or on the computer at a Sylvan Learning Center.
Registering
for the Praxis I paper-based test must be done online at
www.ets.org/praxis.
2. Beginning in September 2006, the
Praxis I Tests will only be offered at Clarion University four times a
year. (Praxis II Tests will be given during the
regular testing times throughout each academic year.)
3. Scores must be sent to the
OFS via the registration or a copy of the scores must be brought to the
office as
soon
as they are available.
4. Please check the
information stand outside of 103 Stevens for specific directions about
registering. These
directions
will give you all of the proper codes required during the registration
process.
Praxis I
Preparation:
1. Workshops: Look around Stevens Hall for
fliers about the workshops offered by the University professors.
Email
messages with the information are sent out as well once the workshops
have been finalized.
2.
PLATO:
The Plato System is an online, computerized tutorial and testing
system. Students may use this program to help them prepare for the
Praxis
I tests in reading, writing and mathematics. It is free to all
teacher education majors with password access. All students taking
ED 110:
Introduction to Education will be given the information to be logged
into the Plato system. Once logged in, the student has access
throughout the
remainder of his/her undergraduate career at Clarion University.

1. Praxis II Topic/Course Charts
- Departments who offer courses related to the various teacher education
majors are developing
topic/course
charts. These charts can be used to identify which courses teach
the topics tested in the major's Praxis II test(s). It is
suggested
that once
the courses covering all listed test topics are completed by the
student, the student is ready to take the related Praxis II test(s).
As the
topic/course
charts are completed, they will be added to this website. The

Praxis II Workshops- If you are interested in taking a workshop to help
you prepare for your Praxis II tests, please stop by the Center for Teac
Teaching Excellence in 113 Stevens Hall. The Center schedules
Praxis II ETS workshops periodically throughout the academic year.
If they lmpw know you are interested in taking a workshop,
they will try to schedule one that best fits the needs of the majority
of students.
