Pennsylvania Department of Education New
Regulations-IMPORTANT!
IMPORTANT:
NEW REGULATORY CHANGES AFFECTING ELIGIBILITY FOR
PENNSYLVANIA EDUCATOR CERTIFICATION.
Beginning September 1, 2003,
applications for teacher certification will be evaluated in
accordance with the following requirements of Chapter 354
established by the Pennsylvania State Board of Education
Grade Point Average (GPA) requirements:
overall GPA as noted on transcript
EFFECTIVE WITH ALL APPLICATIONS RECEIVED
SEPTEMBER 1, 2005: 3.0 GPA
NOTE: All references to a GPA are relative to
a 4.0 scale. Applicants with credits on other scales must
have the equivalent GPA. |
|
What This Means to You
¨
If your present grade
point average (GPA) is less than a 2.92, you will not earn a minimum 3.0
GPA at the end of this semester EVEN IF you receive straight A’s in your
student teaching placements.
¨
If your present GPA is
higher than a 2.92, you may still not earn a 3.0 GPA IF you receive less
than A’s in your student teaching placements.
¨
You CAN bring up your GPA
to the minimum requirement of 3.0 by:
Ø
Holding your graduation
until the next semester.
Ø
Repeat courses in the
spring semester in which you received less than a B grade.
Ø
Use the QPA Calculator on
the Office of Field Services homepage at
http://www.clarion.edu/edu-humn/ofs/index.shtml to determine what
grades you must receive in order to earn the 3.0 GPA.
Ø
When using the QPA
calculator, please remember that you will have to identify each 6 credit
placement as two 3 credit courses because the calculator only goes up to
5 credit courses. Thus, four 3 credit courses will equal your total of
12 credits for the semester.
¨
REMEMBER that as your
earned credits increase, your GPA must increase proportionately to meet
the graduation/certification requirement. Thus, as you use the QPA
Calculator, remember to subtract the number of credits being repeated
from the total earned credits before you add them in as courses you are
taking as you move through the calculator process.
¨
If you have any questions,
please contact your supervisor or Dr. Donna Patterson, Associate
Dean/Director of Field Services.
