Purpose of Award

The H. W. Wilson Scholarship is funded by the H. W. Wilson Foundation. The purpose of the scholarship is to give personal encouragement and financial support to a promising graduate student who seeks a career in librarianship in completing the Master of Science in Library Science degree at Clarion University. The award will provide payment of the basic tuition fee for the recipient. Two $615 awards will be made for 2002-2003.

Eligibility

The scholarship is available to all qualified students of any race, creed or citizenship, single or married, who have serious interest in careers in librarianship and who meet the selection criteria.

Selection Criteria

  1. Admission to the Master of Science in Library Science degree program at Clarion University for full- or part-time study. Revised 1 April 2001.

  2. Evidence of professional potential in librarianship based upon a written statement of personal and professional goals.

Selection Procedures

  1. Student is admitted to the Master's program as a full- or part-time student. Revised 1 April 2001.

  2. Student completes the application form for the Wilson Scholarship.

  3. Members of the department Awards Committee evaluate admission documents and the statement of personal and professional goals.

  4. Members of the above named committee rank applicants according to established criteria.

  5. Award is made by selecting the scholarship recipient from the top of the rank listing.

  6. The award is administered through the University's Student Accounts Office to ensure compliance with university, state and federal student financial assistance regulations.
