Course Offerings
The Department of Library Science is committed to offering courses at the Dixon University Center in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, as long as demand warrants. Library Science graduate courses were first offered at the Dixon University Center in the spring of 1992. There was a hiatus in the year 1994. Since then, Graduate Library Science courses have been offered continuously since the Spring of 1995. The department will offer each of six required core courses either through on-site instruction at the Dixon University Center or as We-based courses.. Courses are scheduled on weekends and evenings to accommodate the needs of returning adult students. Students may also enroll in Web-based courses and in courses offered on the Clarion campus or in Philadelphia..
Courses are offered at the Dixon University Center's Duncan Hall, 2986 North Second Street, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania 17110 (telephone 717-720-4081) unless otherwise indicated
Enrollment in the department's graduate library science courses is restricted to individuals who have been admitted to graduate studies at Clarion University and who are in good academic standing. Students may be admitted to the M.S.L.S. program or to the Certificate of Advanced Studies program; they may also take courses on a non-degree basis. Revised 14 August 2001.
Enrollment for on-site courses is limited to thirty students per core course and twenty-five students per elective course. Enrollment limits for Web-based courses is twenty. Registration and Payment of Tuition and Fees
Students must register for all courses using Web for Students. Before registering, each student must consult with her/his advisor, who will then request that a computer "hold flag" be removed from the student's records. The university registrar's home page lists the times for early registration. The last day to register for classes is the first day of classes for the term in question; not the first meeting of a particular course. Tuition may be paid using Web for Students. Deferred payment may be possible for students whose employer is paying all or part of the tuition, or by special arrangement with Student Accounts. Students desiring a deferment should contact the university's Student Accounts office at 814-393-2253 as soon as possible. Students with loans or third-party billing will have tuition and deducted from their loan or third-party check.
Students are welcome to use the computer laboratory in Duncan Hall for projects or to check e-mail. They should call 717-720-4080 regarding availability and they will need to go to the office to get access, since the laboratory is locked when not in use for security reasons. Students may also arrange for rooms for study sessions by calling the above telephone number.
Security staff is available to escort students to their vehicles if desired. The security telephone number is 717-645-0974 or 717-720-4180, and service is available twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. A campus contact list is also next to the telephone in each room. Updated 4 November 2005.
Dixon University Center Scholarship
The Board of the University Center at Harrisburg, Inc., awards one graduate scholarship each spring, summer, and fall term to students matriculated in degree programs offered at Dixon University Center.
All students not receiving full tuition reimbursement from another source are eligible for these awards, which can amount to the entire cost of tuition, including fees but not books. To be eligible for the award, students must be matriculated in a Dixon Center degree program, have a graduate grade point average of at least 3.0 in on-site coursework, and complete an application form. Applications for each semester should be submitted to Dixon University (2986 North Second Street, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania 17110) by the end of the first week of class. Awards are based on students' need and likely contribution to the Capital Region community.
The board will announce scholarships after the midpoint of the semester, and awards will be made when students have successfully completed coursework.
For an application and more information, contact the Dixon University Center at 717-720-4080. Updated 23 August 2000.
