LABS: AGES has well equipped anthropology, geography, earth science and geology labs.
GIS Laboratory: Equipped with 12 Internet accessible Windows NT workstations, ready for GIS and image processing applications; they include Pentium IV machines with 22" flat monitors. The lab is managed by a Dell Poweredge 4400 server with 1.5Gb RAM and 75GB SCSI hard drives. The specialized software include ERDAS IMAGINE 8.5 for image processing and raster GIS, ArcView 3.2, ArcGIS 8.2 (ArcINFO license), MapInfo Professional 6.1 for vector/raster GIS applications, and AutoCAD LT 2002 for basic computer aided design/drafting. The laboratory is also equipped with a large format plotter (35" wide with a roll feed), an E-size digitizing tablet for map and drawing entry (36" x 48"), a large format (up to 11" x 17") black and white printer and a large format (up to 13" x 19") color inkjet printer.
ANTHROPOLOGY LAB:
METEOROLOGY LAB: meteorological measuring and recording equipment, a satellite terminal and weather station.
EARTH SCIENCE and GEOLOGY LABS: Rock and Mineral Collection, Paleotology Collection, Thin-Section Lab, Petrographic microscopes, Stereo Microscopes, Grain Size Analysis Equipment, Soils Sampling Equipment, portable drilling rig, multi-parameter water testing equipment; Surveying Equipment includes Total Station, target-less laser, Theodolite & Alidada; Geophysical Equipment includes Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR), Conductivity meter, Magnetometers, Resistivity meter, shallow seismic equipment.
PLANETARIUM: The University planetarium is housed within the department under the directorship of Dr. John J. Ernissee.
