19th INDUCTION BANQUET SET
CLARION "SPORTS HALL OF FAME" SET FOR FRIDAY MAY 4
COAKLEY, KIEHL, MILLER, ROOSEVELT & STOUT INDUCTEES
The Clarion University "Sports Hall of Fame" Committee has announced that five new members will be inducted as the 19th "Hall of Fame" Class in 2007.
Induction ceremonies are scheduled for Friday, May 4th at Chandler Dining Hall beginning at 6:30pm. A social is set for 5:00pm at Moore Hall (former President’s residence) on campus. Ticket orders are being handled by Associate A.D. Wendy Snodgrass, Room 111 Tippin Gymnasium. Tickets are $35 per person and are available by contacting Snodgrass at 814-393-1989. Checks should be made payable to Clarion "Sports Hall of Fame".
The new inductees include five former athletes. In alphabetical order the new inductees are; Shannon (Coakley) Gallagher (women’s basketball), Patrick L. Kiehl (diving), James M. Miller (deceased - football), Christopher Roosevelt (men’s basketball) and Bryan C. Stout (wrestling).
"We want to congratulate the inductees on their selection to the Hall of Fame," said Clarion Athletic Director Dave Katis. "They have made a very significant contribution to Clarion Athletics and we look forward to their return on May 4. We invite everyone to come out and help us welcome them into the prestigious Hall of Fame. I’d also like to thank the Hall of Fame Committee on doing another outstanding job in the selection process."

SHANNON (COAKLEY) GALLAGHER - Women’s Basketball - 1994 Clarion University Grad - Speech Pathology & Audiology
Shannon Coakley had a big impact on the women’s basketball program at Clarion from 1991-94. She graduated in 1994 as Clarion’s all-time leading scorer (1,812 points), was fifth in career rebounds (764), fourth in assists (286) and second in steals (253). She helped lead the Golden Eagles to an amazing four-year record of 99-22, a 41-7 record in the PSAC-West, four straight PSAC-West titles, three PSAC Championships (1991, 92, 94), two trips to the NCAA "Elite 8" (91, 94) and two trips to the "Sweet 16" (92, 93) under coach "Gie" Parsons. A 1994 Kodak HM All-American and a first team PSAC-West choice, Shannon had her best season in 1994 averaging 17.9ppg, scored 519 points, added 164 rebounds, 131 assists and 61 steals. She averaged 12.2ppg had 167 rebounds in 1993, 14.9ppg and 189 rebounds in 1992 and 16.3ppg and 244 rebounds as a freshman in 1991. Coakley owned 10 Clarion records including career points, field goals made (629) and attempts (1687), single game field goal attempts (29), single game three pointers made (8 - three times), single game three’s attempted (19), single season field goal attempts (497 - 1991), single season three’s attempted (303 - 1991), single season consecutive games making a three (32 - 1991) and points by a freshman (521 - 1991). In her career she canned 332 three pointers (4th best in the NCAA) of 1,002 attempts, played in 118 games and averaged 15.4ppg. Shannon resides in Franklin, Pa. with her husband Mike, and is currently working at the Riverview Intermediate Unit 6. She is a native of Beaver Falls, Pa. and a 1990 graduate of Blackhawk High School.
PATRICK L. KIEHL - Diving - 1972 Clarion University Grad - Elementary Education
Patrick Kiehl had an important two-year diving career at Clarion and set a standard of diving excellence that became expected in the decades to come. A captain of the first Clarion Men’s Swimming and Diving team in 1970, that team placed second at PSAC’s with Kiehl winning the 1-meter competition and placing second on three meter. He went on to win both one and three meter competitions at the Penn-Ohio Meet, then went to the NAIA Nationals and placed in the top 6 on both boards at nationals. In 1971 Clarion won the PSAC team title and Kiehl was first at PSAC’s on both the one and three meter boards, keying the Golden Eagle championship. After Pat won both boards again at the Penn-Ohio Meet, he went to the NAIA Nationals and won the national championship on the one meter board and became Clarion’s first diving national champion. He also placed 5th on three meter at nationals and finished his career as a four-time All-American and a national champion. He did not dive his senior year due to shoulder injuries. Pat is currently the owner of Investors Mortgage Company in Deland, Florida. He graduated from Valley (New Kensington) High School in 1968 and was a WPIAL Champion before coming to Clarion.
JAMES M. MILLER - (Deceased) - Football - 1967 Clarion University Grad - English
Jim Miller was a talented and hard-nosed football player at Clarion from 1963-66. Jim played both offense and defense, and was a co-captain of the (10-0) undefeated 1966 PSAC Championship team that was coached by Al Jacks. Miller played a receiving position on offense and a defensive back on defense. As an offensive player Miller collected 81 career catches for 1,098 yards, both career records when he graduated in 1966. He also owns the record for average yards per carry (7.83), while catching 5 td passes. In 1966, as Clarion rolled to a 10-0 record and won the PSAC-West and PSAC titles, Miller grabbed 36 passes for 455 yards and 1 td. His top game included 5 catches for 128 yards vs Geneva, and 7 catches for 61 yards against Lock Haven. In Clarion’s PSAC-West clinching win against Slippery Rock (40-0). he grabbed 4 passes for 47 yards, plus posted 2 interceptions on defense. In 1965 Jim had 32 catches for 496 yards and 4 td’s helping Clarion to a 6-2-1 mark. He had 6 catches for 102 yards against Edinboro, and 7 grabs for 86 yards and 2 td’s against California. A native of Erie, Pa. and a 1960 grad of Erie Academy, Jim returned to Erie after graduation and taught English and was a Guidance Counselor at Erie East from 1967-2000 before retiring. He coached girls softball, basketball and assistant varsity football coach during his time at East. Jim recently resided in Lakeland, Florida before passing away on March 2, 2007. He is survived by his wife Judi, children Nicole, Danielle and Jamie and 5 grandchildren.
CHRISTOPHER ROOSEVELT - Men’s Basketball - 1983 Clarion University Grad - Communication
Chris Roosevelt was an outstanding four-year starting forward on the Golden Eagle Men’s Basketball team from 1980-83. In his career he played in all 114 games, ranked fourth in career scoring with 1,588 points, fifth in career rebounds (876) and in career assists (263). He captained the 1983 team, earned HM All-America honors, was a first team All-Region, PSAC-West and All-District selection while he was averaging 20.9ppg, shot a school record 61.2% from the floor, hauled in 238 rebounds, dished out 96 assists and shot 78% from the free throw line. In his career as a forward he shot an amazing 57 % from the floor (680 of 1,197) and 74% from the free throw line (232 of 315), while the Golden Eagles were posting an overall record of 77-37 and collecting three PSAC-West titles in 1980, 81 and 83. Roosevelt averaged 7.1ppg as a freshman with Clarion going 23-9 in 1980. In 1981 the Golden Eagles advanced to the NCAA D-II East Region finals while posting a 23-6 slate. He averaged 14.3ppg and 8.9 rebounds per game that season. In 1982 Roosevelt averaged 15.2ppg and 8.6 rebounds per game, his final season under then coach Joe DeGregorio. He closed his career under Dr. Richard Taylor and averaged 20.9ppg and 9.2 rebounds in 1983. A native of Buffalo, New York and Grover Cleveland High, Roosevelt returned to Buffalo following graduation and is currently employed by Southern Liquor and Wines Company. He and wife Cheryl have four children including Aaron, Naaman, Adina and Joshua.
BRYAN C. STOUT - Wrestling - 1997 Clarion University Grad - General Studies
Bryan Stout, an exciting NCAA Division I wrestler for the Golden Eagles from 1994-97, is the only 4-time NCAA Division I wrestling All-American in the team’s legendary history that includes names like Wade Schalles and Kurt Angle. Stout wrestled from 1994-96 at 190-pounds, then moved to heavyweight in 1997 and compiled a career record of 110-23 including 22 pins. As a freshman in 1994 he was 26-9 overall, was named EWL "Freshman of the Year" and placed 8th at Division I Nationals at 190-pounds. In 1995 he was 29-6 overall, placed 2nd at PSAC’s and EWL’s, then went on to finish 4th at the D-I Nationals at 190-pounds. In 1996 Bryan was 26-3 overall, was PSAC and EWL Champion at 190-pounds and placed 7th at nationals. Then as a senior he moved up to heavyweight and was 29-5 overall, again won EWL and PSAC titles, and finished 4th at nationals. Stout was selected to compete in the NWCA All-Star match twice, helped Clarion to EWL team titles in 1994 and 95 and a PSAC team title in 1994. Clarion finished 15th at D-I Nationals in 1994 and 95, 12th in 1996 and 14th in 1997, all under former head coach Jack Davis. Stout is 9th at Clarion in career dual meet points with 217, and had a dual meet record of 51-6 (89.5%) during his career. Stout, a native of Barnegat, N.J. and a 1992 graduate of Southern Regional High School, currently resides in Mt. Lebanon, Pa. with his wife Jennifer and children Kellan, Luke and Maclane. He is employed by Lanxess Corp and is also an assistant wrestling coach (volunteer) at the University of Pittsburgh.
