Clarion University Soccer Camp wants campers to continue to reach that next level of play. At the end of each camp, participants receive a comprehensive evaluation to use as a tool for future development. Emphasis is placed on striving for the highest educational attainments, keeping a positive attitude on and off the field, and maintaining lifestyle and fitness requirements to reach the highest level of performance.

 

A positive learning environment utilizes highly qualified teaching and coaching personnel. The goal of the camp is to provide a sound foundation for beginners, refine the skills of the intermediate, and perfect techniques of the advanced. That makes Clarion your choice for a quality soccer camp.

 


Half-Day Camp       
June 18-22
Half-Day: 9 a.m.-noon, $60

Recommended for campers 8 years of age and under. The program is designed for the youngest soccer players, with an emphasis on individual improvement, motorskills, and FUN! Lunch is not provided. Check-in from 8 a.m.-8:30 a.m. Held at Clarion University main campus.

 

   

 

Venango Half-Day Camp
June 23-27
Half-Day: 9 a.m.-noon, $60

Recommended for campers 8 years of age and under. The skill-based program is designed for the youngest soccer players! Lunch is not provided. Check-in from 8 a.m.-8:30 a.m. Held at Clarion University─Venango Campus.

 

All-Day Camp 
June 16-20
All Day: 9 a.m.-3 p.m., $90                         

Morning sessions focus on individual and group skill development and technique training. Afternoon sessions focus on team concepts through small-sided games and mini-tournament play. All ages welcome. Check-in from 8 a.m.-8:30 a.m.

 

Goalkeeper Camp         
June 20-21
All Day: 9 a.m.-3 p.m., $100  

Recommended for high school and club players who wish to improve their goalkeeping abilities. Under the tutelage of Clarion’s goalkeeping coach Andy Swift, campers develop individual skills and techniques as well as gain an increased understanding of the goalkeeper’s role within the team through drills and games.

 

 

 

Team Camp/Elite Camp-Overnight
July 27-31
Ages 12-18. Sunday check-in 2 p.m.-4 p.m.
Campers: $220, Commuters: $195

Team Camp

  • Prepares athletes to compete at a higher level of play.

  • Provides preparation necessary for each individual team and specialized, personal instruction to enhance team performance.

  • Offers intensive training demanding 100 percent of participants’ attention, dedication, and discipline.

  • Focuses on technical, tactical, functional play including elements of speed explosion training, nutrition, and injury prevention.

Elite Camp

  • Pools premier junior high/senior high players together under the supervision of experienced college players and nationally-licensed coaches. Players accepted are expected to perform with the ability of a top district, regional, state, or national caliber player.

  • Provides beginnings of physical fitness vital to a successful club or high school season.

  • Includes individual technique sessions, functional training, systems of play, principles of attack and defense, restarts, combination play, patterns of attack, and other facets of the game.


General Information

Participants should bring appropriate soccer shoes, shin guards, sandals or sneakers for walking around campus, sunscreen, and spending money for snacks and souvenirs. Resident campers should bring towels, blanket, sheets, sleeping bag, alarm clock, toiletries, and plenty of soccer-related T-shirts, socks, and shorts for three training sessions per day for five days.

 

 

 

Camp Features

  • Experienced, knowledgeable, motivated coaching staff.

  • Each camper will receive a camp T-shirt.

  • All-Day and Team campers only will receive a camp ball (Size 4 or 5).

  • All campers receive written evaluations of their performance.

  • Team and Junior High/Senior High Elite campers view instructional videos.

  • Special awards are presented at each camp.

  • Clarion Hospital is located within three miles of campus.

Parents interested in being a dorm parent, call 814-393-2376. Major perks are included for campers.

Facilities

Most training takes place at Clarion University Memorial Stadium’s newly resurfaced soccer and practice fields. Certified Athletic Trainers are on-hand.

Tippin Gymnasium’s weight rooms house more than $100,000 of equipment. Three racquetball courts, outdoor volleyball courts, and a 25-meter pool with diving well are also available for recreational use by Team and Elite campers. Nearby, the Gemmell Student Complex includes three racquetball courts, aerobic exercise center, a fitness center, the university bookstore, snack bar, a convenience store, and more. A state-of-the-art recreation center includes a cardio-fitness center, weight room, climbing wall, and indoor running track.

Camp Staff

Christina Alonzo Feldman, Head Coach

An enthusiastic coach and an experienced player, Christina “Nina” Alonzo is in her seventh year as head coach of Clarion University’s Women’s Soccer. She earned her national coaching license in 2004.

Alonzo came to Clarion from Allegheny College in Meadville where she was assistant women’s soccer coach for two seasons and helped lead Allegheny to a 28-9-3 overall record and the 2000 NCAC regular season conference title. Before joining Allegheny College in 1999, Alonzo gained two years of club coaching experience with the Crossfire Soccer Club in Round Rock, Texas.

A native of Wichita Falls, Texas, Alonzo attended Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas, where she was a four-year letterwinner on the women’s soccer team. She was a forward during her junior and senior years and team captain as a senior. Alonzo earned her bachelor’s degree in kinesiology in 1999.
