DEVINA BORING
The Effects of Height and Weight on Knee Injuries in Collegiate Athletics
With the
American culture becoming taller and heavier, there is a national awareness of
the need for physical fitness. As models for maintaining physical fitness,
athletes are often the pinnacle of what it means to be “in shape”. However,
some athletes are still what health professionals consider “overweight” for
their height. My interests in human movement and physical activity prompted this
project, to determine the risks of being overweight as an athlete.
Specifically, I designed a survey to examine the prevalence of knee injuries in
a sample of college athletes at Clarion University, based upon their height,
weight, and general health. The participants completed the survey, and the
results were compiled to determine if a correlation exists between height,
weight, and knee injuries. |
