2018-2019 Clarion University Alumni Association Scholarship & Leadership Awards Criteria

Statement of Purpose for the Awards:
The Clarion University Alumni Association is dedicated to supporting the university community through fostering relationships between current and past students. The Alumni Association, through the Clarion University Foundation, Inc., has available Scholarship and Leadership Awards for undergraduate students for the 2018-2019 academic year.
Special consideration will be given to children and grandchildren of Clarion University alumni, as well as members of the Eagle Ambassador student alumni group. Scholarships are awarded in the form of a tuition credit for the 2018-2019 academic or partial year.


Statement of Eligibility:
The Scholarship and Leadership Awards are open to full-time undergraduate students who will have completed at least 16 credit hours at Clarion University prior to the 2018-2019 academic year.
Statement of Application, Selection, and Award Processes:
Applications are available at the Alumni Relations Office (Seifert-Mooney Center for Advancement) and in the "Alumni & Friends" section of www.clarion.edu.


Applications must be received by the Alumni Office on or before Friday, March 2, 2018, at 4 p.m. in order to be considered. Successful candidates must complete a brief interview with the Finance and Scholarship Committee of the CUAA Board of Directors; to be scheduled after all applications have been received.

The CUAA Finance & Scholarship Committee will review all qualifying applications and applicants will be informed of their decision. The actual award will be in the form of a tuition credit.

The CUAA Scholarship & Leadership Awards tuition credit disbursement will be managed by The Clarion University Foundation.


The selection criteria includes:

  • Academic performance
  • Financial need
  • Letters of recommendation
  • Involvement in alumni related activities


Application Requirements:

  • 2018-2019 Scholarship and Leadership Awards Application
  • Student will be required to give permission to scholarship committee to view financial need
  • typed cover letter explaining what student has done that demonstrates their involvement with Clarion University
  • one letter of recommendation in reference to community or university service - submitted on letterhead
  • one letter of recommendation from a faculty member or current/previous employer - submitted on letterhead
