2008 Frederick Douglass Fellowship Summer Program CLARION UNIVERSITY FREDERICK DOUGLASS SUMMER FELLOWSHIPS Summer 2008 Clarion University of Pennsylvania has established the Frederick Douglass Summer Fellowships to offer opportunities to three graduate students who are pursuing a career in college teaching and are in their final year of a terminal degree program. The fellowships are designed to attract graduate students primarily from HBCU’s and HACU’s. Selected scholars will team-and/or co-teach one course during a five-week Summer Session I. The dates for the Summer I session are June 2, 2008 through July 3, 2008.
This program is part of a Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education Collaborative that is intended to commemorate Douglass’ life-long contributions to equality and public service. The goals of the program are also consistent with the University’s mission to serve historically under-represented populations. Eligibility: Applicants must be U.S. citizens, and must have completed all doctoral work, except the dissertation by the end of the next academic year. Terms: The stipend for Summer Session I for 2008 is $2,758.53. The University will also provide housing assistance, academic support including office space, computer and library privileges, and a competitive allowance, of $1,000.00 for research-related expenses.
During the summer of 2008, the Frederick Douglass Fellows will be assigned to faculty mentors in the appropriate departments, and will be expected to team-and/or co-teach one course during the five-week Summer Session. The Frederick Douglass Scholars are expected to make at least two presentations on their dissertation topic to the Clarion University community, and to participate in on-campus activities.
